What is National IHL Role Play Competition?
The National International Humanitarian Law Role Play Competition is a simulation-based, experiential learning competition designed to introduce future attorneys, government and humanitarian officers to real-world challenges facing IHL practitioners during armed conflict. Modeled on the world renowned Jean-Pictet Competition, participants will engage in a variety of practical role playing exercises, which they will be asked to assume various professional roles and accomplish various field assignments. Unlike traditional moot court competitions, each round of the National International Humanitarian Law Role Play Competition will present a new hypothetical case study, offering participants a dynamic and creative atmosphere in which to explore complex legal issues.
The Competition will test participants’ knowledge of international humanitarian law and public international law, as well as their ability to present, argue, and defend legal positions with a diverse range of stakeholders in different simulated environments. The winning team is eligible to participate in the Regional IHL Role Play Competition 2019 to be held in Malaysia in October in 2019 sponsored by the ICRC Delegation in Japan
